How to set it up.

You'll need a free YouTube Data API key from Google. Takes about 5 minutes the first time. No credit card required.

Open Google Cloud Console

Go to console.cloud.google.com and sign in with any Google account. (It doesn't have to be the one that owns your YouTube channel.)

Create a new project

Click the project dropdown at the top of the page → New Project. Name it anything (e.g., "yt-tracker") and click Create. Wait a few seconds for it to finish.

Enable the YouTube Data API

In the search bar at the top, type YouTube Data API v3 and click the result. On the next page, click the blue Enable button.

Create your API key

Go to APIs & Services → Credentials in the left sidebar. Click Create Credentials at the top → API key. A popup will show your new key. Copy it.

(Optional but recommended) Restrict your key

In the popup, click Edit API key. Under API restrictions, pick Restrict key, then select YouTube Data API v3 from the dropdown. Click Save. This stops anyone with your key from racking up bills on other Google services.

Paste it here, add your channel

Hit Get Started, paste your key, then enter your channel handle (like @yourchannel). Done.

Heads up: Google gives you a free quota of 10,000 API units per day. This app uses ~1-3 units per channel refresh, so you'd have to manually refresh a few thousand times per day to hit the limit. For normal use it's effectively unlimited and free forever.

Your data stays your data.

There's no backend. There's no database. There's no analytics. Your API key and channel data are stored in your browser's localStorage and nowhere else. The only outbound request is from your browser directly to YouTube's API.

How to get one in 5 minutes

It's free, no credit card required. Follow these steps then come back here and paste your key.

Open Google Cloud Console
